Derren Brown is a British illusionist and performer who combines magic, suggestion, psychology, misdirection and showmanship to achieve the seemingly impossible. He is known for his mind reading feats as well as for predicting and controling human behavior.
Many people tried to reveal Derren's tricks. Some think he is using NLP, others believe that he has genuine psychic abilities. Only one thing is certain: whatever he does, he is damn good at it.
While studying law in Bristol, Derren got increasingly interested in hypnosis after he saw a live hypnosis show by Martin Taylor. Inspired by the show, Derren decided hypnosis was far more interesting than law and started to learn the techniques used by hypnotists. He soon mastered the thing and started performing his own hypnosis shows. Also being a magic enthusiast, he came to an idea of mixing his magic skills with his newly acquired knowledge of hypnosis and psychology.
The results were some of the most mind-blowing mentalism effects ever performed. His television series Mind Control, Trick of the Mind and Trick or Treat, along with his live shows Something Wicked This Way Comes, Evening of Wonders, Enigma and Svengali, established Derren Brown as the greatest mind reader of our time.
Claiming to have no supernatural abilities whatsoever, Brown revealed many tricks used by various psychic charlatans who do claim to have such abilities. He also wrote about that and several other topics in his books: Pure Effect, Absolute Magic, Tricks of the Mind and Confessions of a Conjuror.
